I wasn't thinking about buying a new car for a few more years, but now I'm seriously considering getting rid of my SUV and buying something smaller.

mlittle - I was going the opposite way. I was thinking of buying an SUV. I'll keep my little car. It's been paid off for several years, runs well, and gets great gas mileage.

Is it any wonder we're in a recession (aka depression?) People can't afford to buy what they want.

Seems to me that as long as people buy gas-guzzling vehicles, the oil companies will continue to make record profits. They do know that it doesn't matter what they charge for gasoline; people will pay it as they fill up their 40 gallons tanks, spending $ 100 - $150 EVERY week!
