Enjoy a soccerfest today at Blackbaud
Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island will host a lot of good soccer today with the Clash of the Carolinas preceding a Charleston Battery match. The Clash of the Carolinas, which is the only interstate competition of its kind for high school soccer in the United States, features top recent boys and girls high school graduates from North and South Carolina.
Lacrosse on agenda for SCHSL
The High School League's Executive Committee will hold its first meeting of the 2008-09 academic year on Aug. 1, and one of the topics the group will discuss is lacrosse.
Green Wave staying in the Palmetto State
The Summerville football team will not play in the inaugural Texas High School Showcase presented by the National Football Foundation. The event will be held Aug. 30 and Sept. 1 at Texas Stadium, which is the home of the Dallas Cowboys.
Summerville football coach and athletic director and football coach John McKissick said his school decided to honor its contract to play Conway at home that weekend.
Newman takes reins for Raptors
The Academic Magnet boys' basketball team has a new coach and a new attitude. Brett Newman is the new coach and the former Marine is going to use discipline, fair but firm, to shape the team. The 39-year-old becomes only the second coach in Magnet history. He replaces Ronald Williams, who resigned following the completion of the best season in school history.
Rowland, Nelson take state honors
Dorman's Marcus Rowland has been named the Gatorade boys' state track and field athlete of the year while Brianna Nelson of J.L. Mann won the girls' award.
