Mark Olson has fond memories of playing in the Lowcountry with his former band, The Jayhawks, back in the 90's. Speaking on the phone two weeks ago while driving to one of the more than 100 gigs he's played in the last year, Olson advised, "Yeah, we had really good shows there. I remember that."

Much like your local 7-Eleven location, the guys in ska/punk band Less Than Jake always seem to be right around every corner. "That's awesome," said Peter 'JR' Wasilewski, who joined the band in 2000. "I take that as a compliment, and to even be thought of in that way is really cool. To be able to keep going is totally sweet and I want to keep doing it."

It's a rare treat to hear Leonard Bernstein's "Candide" performed in its entirety. It's a rarer treat to hear a performance as glittery and gay, as full of fun and humor and heartfelt joy as the one presented April 19 at the Gaillard Municipal Auditorium. The Charleston Symphony Orchestra and a cast of hundreds brought an extraordinary operetta to vivid life with aplomb.
