For Stephen Marley, reggae is still a family affair

Thursday, May 8, 2008
'I don't want to be just another artist." Those were words of Stephen Marley. Granted, the 34-year-old only recently released his debut solo effort, "Mind Control." But this is, after all, the son of the late Bob Marley — the same son who joined his siblings, The Melody Makers, onstage when he was only seven years old.

This Jayhawk still flying high

Thursday, May 8, 2008
Mark Olson has fond memories of playing in the Lowcountry with his former band, The Jayhawks, back in the 90's. Speaking on the phone two weeks ago while driving to one of the more than 100 gigs he's played in the last year, Olson advised, "Yeah, we had really good shows there. I remember that."

Rock band still heads South to recharge culturally

Thursday, May 8, 2008
Cody Dickinson fondly remembers two things about Charleston, "the dancing and the beautiful girls in the South." "Audiences in South Carolina might not be the politest," said Dickinson, who is one-third of the North Mississippi Allstars, "but they certainly get down and have fun, and they do respond to the music."

'Sun and the Moon' rises and sets with The Bravery

Thursday, May 1, 2008

Lowcountry will enjoy a spot of ‘Tea' this weekend

Thursday, May 1, 2008
Buddy Holly cover songs might be the last thing one would expect hearing during the midst of a jam session, but Trevor Garrod has been a fan of the song, 'Everyday,' since he first discovered it on the 'Stand By Me' movie soundtrack.

'Generation X' band still going strong after 16 years

Thursday, May 1, 2008
Much like your local 7-Eleven location, the guys in ska/punk band Less Than Jake always seem to be right around every corner. "That's awesome," said Peter 'JR' Wasilewski, who joined the band in 2000. "I take that as a compliment, and to even be thought of in that way is really cool. To be able to keep going is totally sweet and I want to keep doing it."

CSO's 'Candide' pays tribute to Bernstein

Sunday, April 27, 2008
It's a rare treat to hear Leonard Bernstein's "Candide" performed in its entirety. It's a rarer treat to hear a performance as glittery and gay, as full of fun and humor and heartfelt joy as the one presented April 19 at the Gaillard Municipal Auditorium. The Charleston Symphony Orchestra and a cast of hundreds brought an extraordinary operetta to vivid life with aplomb.
