Ken Burger

Ken Burger is a native of Allendale, S.C., and a graduate of the University of Georgia. In the mid-1980s, Burger was the Washington, D.C., correspondent for the paper. He has been executive sports editor since 1987, writing an award-winning sports column that has been hailed as the best in the country by the Associated Press Sports Editors three times. He has been named South Carolina Sportswriter of the Year several times and in 1999 was honored as South Carolina Journalist of the Year.

But, the truth is that no money was budgeted for a scoreboard in the College of Charleston's new basketball arena, scheduled to open in November. The $48 million facility on Meeting Street, branded the Carolina First Center, will be a state-of-the-art basketball venue slated to seat approximately 5,000 fans. Read story.

Larry Leckonby was named athletic director of The Citadel last week, something that would make his father very proud, even though he wasn't much for moving around. "The first time I called my father and told him I was moving from Boston University to Old Dominion, the phone was silent for a second," Leckonby recalled.
