Stags' Ellington turns in special effort in rout

Berkeley's Bruce Ellington had one of the most memorable performances in Friday night's 51-14 Region 7-AAAA football victory over the James Island Trojans. Ellington caught six passes for 153 yards and a touchdown, but what gets your attention was his special team's play. He returned one kickoff for 85 yards and a touchdown and another kickoff 86 yards for a score. Ellington finished with 332 all-purpose yards. The Stags are averaging nearly 39 points per game, so they are hardly a one-man show. Quarterback Pernell Irving also had a big game. He carried 14 times for 111 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while going 8-of-9 passing for 176 yards and a score. Dante Richardson tallied 69 yards on eight carries. Stags, Wave on TV The Oct. 24 Summerville-Berkeley game will be televised on ETV's digital broadcast service, the South Carolina Channel. The pre-game show, hosted by Bob Schuster, will air at 7 p.m. and the kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at McKissick Field. Former South Carolina running back Duce Staley will provide color commentary and USC broadcaster Derek Scott will do play-by-play. Student reporters from both schools will reports from the sidelines, and at halftime, Schuster will interview both school's administrators. ETV also wants to showcase games from all over the state and is asking for fans to send in cell phone videos of big plays from their local games that night. Videos should be e-mailed to etvsports@scetv.org (texting the video will not work). Eblen commits Former Wando basketball standout Ben Eblen has committed to play at Virginia Commonwealth University. The 6-0, 185-pound point guard has been rated 17th in the nation by Scout.com. Eblen transferred from Wando to Florida Air Academy in Melbourne his sophomore season. Eblen helped lead the FAA Falcons to the Class AAA state title in 2007. Lattimore sets record Gaffney running back Marcus Lattimore broke his school's all-time career rushing record in Friday's 42-14 loss to top-ranked Byrnes. What makes his accomplishment more impressive is that he's only a junior.He rushed for 220 yards Friday and now has 2,952 yards. Mike Glenn ran for 2,835 rushing yards. Reach Philip M.
