2nd man arrested in deadly collision

Thursday, September 4, 2008

SOCASTEE — Police have arrested a second man they say smashed into a boat on the Intracoastal Waterway while fleeing from a burglary, killing a 13-year-old Aiken boy.

Sgt. Robert Kegler said 28-year-old Nicholas Macklen turned himself in to Horry County police on Tuesday afternoon. Macklen has been charged with first-degree burglary and conspiracy, according to authorities.

Police arrested 22-year-old Brandon Scott McDevitt on Monday on the same charges.

Authorities said the two men broke into a house and stole a television before taking off in a boat and crashing into another vessel near Socastee.

On Tuesday, the men's girlfriends, Amber Nicole Walker and Elizabeth L. Parness, were charged with accessory after the fact of a felony.

The boat wreck killed Shayne Odermatt and seriously injured three other people.

A young boy lost his life. Charge them with murder during the commission of a crime.

sounds good to me too. Sounds like murder or at least manslaughter. That is a new one though. A getaway in a boat?
