— The South Carolina State Election Commission wants to get 800,000 eligible voters registered to participate in the nation's historic presidential race that will seat either the first black man or first woman in the executive office.

The commission is scheduled to kick off a voter registration drive Wednesday in Columbia. Gov. Mark Sanford has proclaimed September as Voter Education Month.

The event, scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. in the Statehouse Rotunda, is intended to provide information to eligible voters.

"The South Carolina State Election Commission wants to get 800,000 eligible voters registered to participate in the nation's historic presidential race that will seat either the first black man or first woman in the executive office."

This is all about making history and not about making sure the right person is in office or the people make their decision based on facts and the candidate's positions. This is very disappointing to me.
