COLUMBIA — The state House voted unanimously today to give key approval to a bill that would establish a new special license plate that says "I Believe" and is printed with a cross superimposed on a stained glass window. The American Jewish Congress sent Gov. Mark Sanford a letter and threatened a court challenge if the legislation becomes law. The governor's office said that they have no problem with the plate's proposed text or image but will have to study the legislation before the governor could sign it. The bill must get a perfunctory final approval from the House before going back to the Senate. If the Senate agrees with a small change the House made to the bill, it would then go to Sanford's desk. South Carolina has about 100 special license plates, including one that says "In God We Trust."

Well, why doesn't the American Jewish Congress petition to have a Star of David on a plate. Problem solved.
