Kids triathlon to be held in June

The third annual Daniel Island Kids Triathlon for ages 7-14 will be held at Pierce Park Pavilion on Daniel Island on June 21.

At a cost of $30, participants will have the opportunity to compete against other children in a kid specific sprint triathlon with distances tailored to different age groups.

Athletes will compete in the three triathlon events of swimming, biking and running. All finishers will receive a participant medal, T-shirt, and gift bag. Awards will be given for the top three finishers, boys and girls, in each age group. For more information, contact Will Rishovd at 216-6366 or rishovdw@ci.charleston.sc.us.

Soccer teams sought for 3v3 Challenge

The Lowcountry 3v3 Challenge is looking for youth soccer teams for its tournament to be held June 7-8 at Charleston Southern University.

The tournament is for boys and girls in age divisions that range from Under-6 through U18 in recreation and competitive skill levels. The cost is $175 per team. Registration deadline is May 25.

All teams will be guaranteed four games in the event, which is a qualifier for the 3v3 Challenge Nationals to be held Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex on July 31-Aug. 3.

Mt. P. to host youth track meet

The Mount Pleasant Track Club has invited youth track and field teams from across the Charleston area to participate in the fifth annual Mount Pleasant Youth Developmental Track Meet at 9 a.m. May 31.

The event is scheduled to be held at the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department's Park West track facility. The deadline to enter is May 29.

Athletes will compete in six age divisions based on USATF guidelines: sub-bantam (8 and under), bantam (9-10), midget (11-12), youth (13-14), intermediate (15-16) and young men and women (17-18). Ribbons will be awarded to the top six in each event.

Running events will begin at 9 a.m. and will include the 100-meter dash through the 3000-meter run, a 4x100-meter relay, a 4x400-meter relay and hurdles. Field events will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will include long jump, high jump, pole vault, shot put, discus and javelin.

Entry forms for the Mount Pleasant Youth Developmental Track Meet are available at www.townofmountpleasant.com. Entry fees are $1 per athlete.
