Barbecue dinner

The Knights of Columbus, Council 12472, will hold a barbecue dinner fundraiser 11 a.m.-2 p.m. May 17 at Father McCarthy Hall at Blessed Sacrament Church on Savannah Highway.

Dinner includes barbecue, mashed potatoes and green beans. Takeout is available.

Also, delivery to West Ashley, James Island and peninsular Charleston is available for 10 or more orders. Cost of the dinner is $6. Proceeds will be split between the Blessed Sacrament Youth Ministries and Blessed Sacrament School. Tickets can be purchased from any Knight or member of the Blessed Sacrament Youth Ministry Groups. Artist Guild

For centuries, painters have used the palette as a way to get paint from tube to brush to canvas. Now, the palette becomes the canvas as members of the Charleston Artist Guild turn these painter's tools into creative works of art.

The Charleston Artist Guild will present "The Painted Palettes at Piccolo Spoleto," 10 a.m.-5 p.m. May 23-June 5 at the Charleston Artist Guild Gallery, 6 North Atlantic Wharf, downtown Charleston. A reception will be held 5-8 p.m. June 5. The public is invited. More than 75 painted palettes will be displayed in various media including oil, watercolor, acrylic, photography, printmaking and pastel. Austen Society

The Jane Austen Society of North America, S.C. Region, will meet at 1:30 p.m. May 17 in the meeting room of the Johns Island Regional Library, 3531 Maybank Highway. The film, "The Jane Austen Book Club," will be shown. Nonmembers are welcome for the program and refreshments.

GOP Women

Charleston County Republican Women will meet 11:30 a.m. May 27 at the Country Club of Charleston. Nancy Cook will be the speaker. A workshop on "Get Out the Vote" will be held along with a club auction. Guests are welcome, and the cost is $17. Beit Midrash

Beit Midrash of Charleston will meet to learn about the parallels of the Feast of Pentecost and the Feast of Shavuot at 6:30 p.m. June 7 at Citadel Square Baptist Church chapel, 328 Meeting St. Bring a friend and Bible.
