Soccer coaches name all-state selections

The South Carolina High School Soccer Coaches Association announced its all-state teams.

Local players who made the boys' Class AAAA team include Rudi Hellberger, Fort Dorchester; Justin Barlotta, Summerville; Luke Hogan, Wando; and Austin Savage, Stratford.

Local players who made the girls' Class AAAA team include Kendall Bacon, Summerville; Shawn Haviland, Wando; Sandi Hudson, Wando; and Lesley Sweat, Summerville.

Local players on the girls' Class AAA team include Abby Fennessey and Kaitlin Iulo, Hilton Head Island.

Locals players on the boys' Class AA team include Alvin Hooper, George Khoury, Jorge Villamizar and Hunter Wilson, Bishop England.

Local players on the girls' Class AA-A team include Erika Christensen, Bishop England; Emily Farrier, Academic Magnet; Elizabeth Miller and Abigail Thompson, Bishop England.

Local players on the boys' Class A team include Preston Myers, Lincoln and Bastien Bacro- Duverger, Allan DaPore, Travis Farnham, Lucas Hagerty and Alex Rieflin, Academic Magnet.

Softball stars

The Coaches Association of Women's Sports has announced its all-state and all-star teams.

Local players named to the Class AAAA all-state team include Caroline Pastre, Stratford; Meghan Carter, Colleton County; Maria Kaufman, Berkeley; Erica Kaufman, Berkeley; Malari Myers and Ashley Muekelveney, Summerville.

Candace Graves of Bluffton is the only local player named to the Class AAA team.

The local Class AA all-state selections include Laura Moore, Hanahan; Christine Stokes, Bishop England; and Kelley Dillon, Hanahan.

Jessica Tumolo is the only player selected to the Class A team.

Local players selected to play in the North-South Class AAAA-A All-Star Games include Maria Helms, Goose Creek; Jordan Smith, Stratford; Brittany Koester, Summerville; Emily Purcell, Summerville; Mindy Leikvoll, Battery Creek; LeRonna Drayton, Baptist Hill; Molly Baker of Hanahan; and Carter of Colleton County.

Local players selected to play in the North-South Class AAA-AA All-Star Games include Katie Able and Stokes of Bishop England; and Moore of Hanahan.

Ferguson signs

Blake Ferguson, Cathedral Academy, will sign a basketball scholarship on Thursday to play at Pfeiffer University, in Misenheimer, N.C. He averaged 18 points and nine rebounds a game his senior season.

Sertome schedule

The 2008 Muhler Sertoma Classic will be held Aug. 21-22 at Johnson Hagood Stadium.

Action begins at 7 p.m. both days.

Here is the schedule:

Aug. 21: First Baptist vs. Baptist Hill; Timberland vs. Berkeley; Military Magnet vs. Cross; Northwood Academy vs. North Charleston; Academic Magnet at Scott's Branch; Stratford vs. Goose Creek.

Aug. 22: Pinewood Prep vs. Lincoln; Colleton County vs. Garrett Tech; Porter-Gaud vs. Burke; Fort Dorchester vs. Woodland; Stall vs. West Ashley; Wando vs. Bishop England and James Island vs. Summerville.
