Monday, May 12, 2008

Product recalls announced last week.

Details are available at www.cpsc.gov and other Web sites as listed.

Dune buggies

About 400 Twister Hammerhead dune buggies, made in China and imported by TJ Power Sports LLC, because the seat belt's shoulder buckle adjustment can break under stress or if the buggy hits another object. This puts the driver and passenger at risk of being thrown from the buggy or other injuries. The company has received one report of a seat belt break that resulted in nerve damage to a rider's arm. The buggies were sold online and by Twister dealers around the country between July and December 2004. Details: by phone at 800-638-2772; by Web at www.tjpowersports.com.

Gas grills

About 4,800 Broil King gas grills made in Canada by Onward Manufacturing Co., because the bottom of the burner-containing cook box can melt or crack if a grease fire occurs, posing a burn and fire hazard. No injuries have been reported. The grills were sold by independent retailers around the country between February 2006 and April 2008. Details: by phone at 866-434-7455; by Web at www.broilkingbbq.com.

Bottle warmers

About 5,000 deluxe bottle and food warmers made in China by Munchkin Inc., because they can overheat, posing a risk of fire. The company has received nine reports of warmers overheating, including several that caught fire. No injuries were reported. The warmers were sold in the company's catalog and by retailers around the country between June 2007 and April 2008. Details: by phone at 866-619-8673; by Web at www.munchkin.com.

Italian ice

Cedar Crest Specialties Inc. is expanding its earlier recall of Lezza Blue Raspberry Italian Ice, because it may contain milk proteins that are not listed in the ingredients on the packaging. This could be dangerous for people with milk allergies. The company has received one report of an allergic reaction. The ice was sold in round plastic pint containers with a lot code of 2116. The ice was sold in Illinois, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan, Louisiana, Kansas, Indiana, Georgia, Florida, Ohio, Missouri, Kentucky, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Arkansas during 2006 and 2007. Details: by phone at 866-233-2788.
