Who's ahead?

Q: How disappointing there were no standings for the annual CCAA Swim Meet in Monday's paper. Surely, there was room to put the top three scores out of the 23 teams involved. DON'T try to send me to the Internet. I prefer my news while I sip my morning cup of green tea.

On the plus side, thanks for several GREAT photos. Sandra, Summerville.

A: You're right. It would have made sense to publish the latest standings in Monday's paper. Today's paper will have more coverage of the event, and Sunday's will have extensive results of the competition.

No mention

Q: I awoke this morning hoping to read details about an important front-page-worthy national news story that broke at 7:30 p.m. Friday. I could find no mention of the subject whatsoever in The Post and Courier. In a classic after-hours news release ploy (to avoid as much media play as possible) the McCain campaign announced the resignation of Phil Gramm as McCain's campaign co-chairman and his chief economic adviser. Apparently this ploy worked ... at least here. Richard, Kiawah.

A: The story is indeed one you would have expected to find in Saturday's paper. Even more, it did not appear in Sunday's or Monday's paper. It was an unfortunate oversight.

Headlines

Q: I'm glad the paper has given you and the other columnists your heads. The pictures look better. Rose, peninsula.

A: My light-headedness has all but disappeared.

Seriously, when some readers let the paper know that they didn't like the pictures which cut off columnists' heads a little above the eyebrows, the staff made the change.
