Candidates file for Charleston school board race

The Charleston County School Board will lose 36 years of experience and gain new leadership after this November's election. The filing deadline to run for one of five open seats was Tuesday at noon, and three multiple-term incumbents decided not to run again. Board Chairman Hillery Douglas, a 16-year veteran of the board, Vice Chairwoman Nancy Cook, who has eight years on the board, and member Brian Moody, who's served 12 years, each decided not to seek re-election. Their vacancies leave the door open for newcomers, or familiar faces, to win a spot on the board. Those filing petitions with the county Board of Elections and Voter Registration were: Toya Hampton Green, Robert Russell and Marvin Stewart for one downtown seat; Chris Collins, Elizabeth Kandrac and Mattese Lecque for two North Charleston seats; and John Graham Altman, David Engelman, Chris Fraser and Ann Oplinger for two West Ashley seats.
Candidates must live in certain areas, but voters choose the winners countywide. Read more in tomorrow's Post and Courier.

Nancy Crook. The truth always catches up. And it will catch her, too.

Vote no incumbents back in office nor anyone that's already served. Power hungry thugs, no different than power hungry street thugs.
