Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island will host a lot of good soccer today with the Clash of the Carolinas preceding a Charleston Battery match. The Clash of the Carolinas, which is the only interstate competition of its kind for high school soccer in the United States, features top recent boys and girls high school graduates from North and South Carolina. The girls' game kicks off at 3 p.m., and the roster has several area players including Wando's Sandi Hudson and Shawn Haviland, James Island's Marissa Terry, and Academic Magnet's Emily Farrier. Academic Magnet's Troy Bennage is coaching the Palmetto State's girls' team. The boys' game starts at 5 p.m. The South Carolina roster includes Fort Dorchester's Rudi Hellberger, Sumerville's Justin Barlotta, and Wando's Luke Hogan. Then, at 7:30 p.m., the USL First Division-leading Battery hosts the Puerto Rico Islanders. The Battery, which boasts the league's best goal difference record (plus 9) and is four points clear of second-place Vancouver, is playing its fourth straight game at Blackbaud Stadium and remains unbeaten in that homestand.
