Worldly wines

Woodlands Resort and Inn hosts its monthly wine tasting and pairing dinner on Tuesday. French is the theme smack dab between Bastille Day and the Tour de France. This event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a tasting of 12 wines, cheeses and charcuterie. It will be followed by a four-course dinner with wine pairings. This dinner is scheduled to end at 9:30 p.m. The cost is $88 per person, plus tax. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 308-2115. The next "Wines of the World" dinner is scheduled Aug. 19. The theme is "For Pinot Noir Lovers." For more info, visit www.woodlandsinn.com.

Callie's Charleston Biscuits was selected as a Gold Sofi Award winner in the outstanding baked goods category of the National Association of Specialty Foods 36th annual awards held at the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York. Big Easy bound

Charleston Place General Manager Paul Stracey announced the promotion of David Teich to general manager of the Orient Express Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans. Teich has served at Charleston Place both as manager and director of food and beverage operations. A successor has not yet been named.

Mojito victor

John Aquino, bartender at Coast Bar and Grill, has won his third victory at the Bacardi Mojito Challenge. His winning entry, Boysenberry Lychee Mojito, can be sampled at Coast Bar and Grill, beginning at 5 p.m. Coast is located at 39 D John St. 722-8838.
