Columbia patient who shot self diesSaturday, August 30, 2008
COLUMBIA — The patient at a Columbia hospital who shot herself in the head after grabbing a prison officer's gun has died. Palmetto Health spokeswoman Tammie Epps says the woman died Thursday around 5 p.m. The woman's name has not been released. Authorities said the woman took the gun from a Department of Corrections officer who was at the hospital with an inmate. The woman had been in critical condition after the shooting Tuesday night. The Department of Corrections is reviewing its policies for inmate transfers to hospitals. The hospital has also agreed to create a separate waiting area for inmates. |
