Palin gets thumbs up from S.C. Republicans
The Post and Courier

The choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as the GOP vice presidential nominee is bound to satisfy Lowcountry Republicans who make up John McCain's base here. Speaker of the House Bobby Harrell, one of McCain's South Carolina co-chairs, called Palin an outstanding pick. "She's a conservative lady who has executive experience, and I could not be happier with his choice. He picked a conservative reformer, somebody very similar to himself in terms of philosophy," Harrell said. "I'm looking forward to meeting her next week." Lowcountry Republicans would have been less enthusiastic about two other possibilities, including former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge and U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, both of whom are pro choice. The choice of Palin, who is pro life, seems certain to create more unity in Minnesota next week. South Carolina GOP Chair Katon Dawson previously said he is firmly in the pro-life camp, "and I would have some concerns in a nominee that was not, but that being said, it's John McCain's pick." U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint praised Palin for her work cutting wasteful spending, opposing earmarks and taking on corruption in her own party. He also noted that she "knows we must aggressively pursue American energy sources like offshore drilling to reduce our dependence on foreign oil." Read more in tomorrow's Post and Courier.

This is a scary pick, as I am uncertain whether Palin has the experience or expertise to be commander in chief. Actually, what I meant to say is that I am certain that she does not.
Of course, this doesn't mean that Senator McCain can't win, as we saw that in 1968 (Agnew) and in 1988 (Quayle), questionable vice-presidential picks were no obstacle.
Whether she can win is less important than whether she is competent to be president.

If McCain picked Marmaduke as a running mate, SC Republicans would still think it's an outstanding choice.

My comment is not intended to be partisan.
Pluffmuddy's logic is flawed, as Obama's experience, or lack thereof, is irrelevant to the question of whether Palin is competent to be president.
Does Obama's lack of executive experience make Palin a better candidate? Wouldn't you ask the same thing about Senator McCain, who also lacks executive experience?
