$16.6 million plan targets numerous N. Charleston projects

The Post and Courier
Friday, August 29, 2008

Money from North Charleston's sale of property on the old Navy base will soon pay for $15.2 million in different projects across the city, including a mural in the Olde Village and exterior demolition of the old Power House.

In addition, the city will borrow $1.4 million to build a new fire station on Palmetto Commerce Parkway.

The projects include demolition of add-ons to the old Power House, designing a new Public Works facility, building a park and three-company fire station at the old Navy base tank farm, setting aside money for the future Hunley Museum, adding amenities to Riverfront Park, designing the streetscape for Montague Avenue between Park Circle and Rivers Avenue, building trails and walkways through the Noisette Preserve and painting a mural on an aluminum raw material storage tank at the end of East Montague Avenue in Olde North Charleston.

City Council's Finance Committee approved the $16.6 million spending plan earlier this week.
