Broadway plays, first novels and New York cabs

Sporting notes compiled while hailing New York cabbies:

--We all know VMI Keydets can't lie, cheat or steal. So when first-year coach Sparky Woods asked his quarterback how he liked the new offense, the young man answered, "Sir, I don't like it, sir."

--Let's see, Georgia has five players suspended for its season opener against Georgia Southern, which has eight players suspended. Should be a great game.

--Meanwhile, UGA fans are nervous about the Bulldogs being ranked as the preseason No. 1 pick. Until they get past the South Carolina game, they should be.

--I saw (Bull's Bay golf pro) Terry Florence's beautiful daughter, Margaret Anne, playing the female lead in "The Fantasticks" on Broadway last week. What a talent.

--I'll never say anything bad about New York cab drivers after I left my computer bag in a cab at LaGuardia and the cabbie tracked me down in the airport to give it back. Whew.

--Summerville's John McKissick has been coaching high school football for 57 years. He started in 1952 when Harry Truman was president, cigarettes sold for 19 cents a pack and a top song of the day was "Jambalaya."
