Tropical Storm Fay sputtered and lost gas along the Florida coast today. Forecasters expected it turn back across Florida by Thursday, farther south than earlier predictions. "It's looking more like (just) a soaking rain event for us," said meteorologist Douglas Berry, with the National Weather Service, Charleston. An inch or two of rain total is expected. Winds Thursday could reach 20-25 mph with gusts of 30 mph with a "you can't rule it out" isolated threat of tornadoes. Read more in tomorrow's editions of The Post and Courier.

An inch or two isn't soaking. Five or more is soaking.
