SUMMERVILLE — The State Election Commission will not hear more of the Republican Party's arguments against Bill Collins' petition candidacy for state Senate District 38. The decision leaves Republicans deciding whether to drop the challenge or appeal to the state Supreme Court, Dorchester County Republican Party Chairman Arthur Bryngelson said Wednesday. The Election Commission heard nothing at an Aug. 12 hearing that led them to invalidate Collins' petition and will not hold another hearing, Chairman John Hudgens said in an Aug. 19 letter to Columbia attorney Karl (Butch) Bowers, who is representing the Republican Party. Collins, a former newspaper publisher, is running as an independent against attorney Mike Rose, who beat state Sen. Randy Scott in the Republican primary. Read more in Thursday's Post and Courier.
