Cab driver crashes to disrupt robbery

John Winbush handed over his cash and his watch. Then he heard one of the two passengers in the back seat of his taxi cab telling the other to shoot him. At that point, Winbush did the only thing that came to mind: he stomped on the gas pedal, made a hard left turn, and veered toward an abandoned house. "I was trying to turn enough to shake them loose," Winbush said Wednesday, the morning after the incident in the Dorchester-Waylyn subdivision. "There was no fear there. All you can do is think, 'How can I reverse this situation?'" The car slid into the house. The two young men in the back hopped out a back door and ran down the street. The 51-year-old Yellow Cab driver raced after them until it occurred him he was unarmed and it was probably best to stop. North Charleston police were searching for suspects. They were also looking into similarities between this and other robberies in the same neighborhood, including one the night before. Check Charleston.net later today for more details.

I am glad to hear that Mr. Winbush escaped unharmed. I hope the police find the scumbags who prey on people trying to earn an honest living.
