Amick, Talbert top All-Star event

Seabrook Island — McKenzie Talbert added to her first-round lead to take the overall girls championship in the Tommy Cuthbert All-Stars Championship.

Brian Amick won the boys 15-18 division with a total of 153. The Ocean Winds Club at Seabrook Island played host to the event conducted by the SCJGA.

Talbert had consecutive rounds of 76 for a two-day total of 152. Amick struggled Sunday with an 81 but was able to hold on for a two-shot victory.

Matthew NeSmith of Aiken had a two-day total of 146 to take the boys 13-14 division.

Charleston's R.J. Keur held on for a one-shot victory in the boys 10-12 bracket with a two-day total of 80.

Samantha Buchanan from Hilton Head won the girls 11-13 division with a two-day total of 75.

Both the boys 8-9 division and girls 8-10 division were settled in sudden death playoffs, Christian Salzer took the boys title while Kate Harper took the girls title.

The Hilton Head Chapter took top honors in girls team championship for the second year in a row. The Pee Dee Chapter took the overall title in the boys team championship.

Clemson golf

Four Clemson golfers, including All-American Kyle Stanley, will compete at the United States Amateur, which begins today at Pinehurst, N.C. Medal play featuring 312 golfers begin play today on Pinehurst Nos. 2 and 4.

The four Clemson golfers in the field are senior Phillip Mollica, juniors Stanley and Sam Saunders and incoming freshman Jacob Burger.

After the two days of medal play, the top 64 golfers will go into the match play format that will determine the champion.

Cisar honored

Former Charleston Southern baseball player Mark Cisar was honored Saturday as he was inducted into the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Hall of Fame in Wheeling, Ohio.

Cisar, who played at CSU in 1994-1998, was part of a 16-person class inducted. He was honored for his accomplishments at Magnolia High School.

Cisar still hold the school record for career walks (105) and stolen bases in a season (28), and was the 1997 Big South Player of the Year.

At Magnolia High, Cisar was a football and baseball star. On the gridiron, Cisar played quarterback, safety, kicker and punter. He was a three-time All-West Virginia (Class AA), All-OVA C and All-Valley selection as a pitcher.
