Twelve dogs seized last week by the Charleston Animal Society were euthanized Monday, shelter officials said.
They were all adult dogs with stage 2 heartworm disease, severe bacterial and yeast infections of the skin, and extensive dental disease.
The remaining dogs from the group of 19 seized July 28 from 3716 Greenland Road on Johns Island are puppies about 4 months old. They're being quarantined for health assessments, but shelter officials said they are seeking foster homes for those animals.
Magistrate Mary Holmes found Gadsden guilty Friday of disorderly conduct, 19 charges of ill treatment of animals and 10 charges of failing to vaccinate. Holmes ordered Gadsden to pay the society $1,480 in restitution and fined him a total of $4,000.
Animal Control also seized 23 hound dogs at 1861 Belgrade Ave. from Jack Dedrie Salisberry, 35, Charleston; William Kyle Kinard, 30, of Goose Creek; and Bryan Corduno Owens, 18, of Wadmalaw Island on July 30 . Salisberry said the dogs had to be moved to Belgrade Avenue quickly because of a lost hunting club lease, according to the report.
The fate and future of those dogs will be decided at 10 a.m. Wednesday at a hearing in front of Judge David Coker in North Charleston.
Those dogs remain in protective custody and also have severe skin problems. Some of their nails have become ingrown back into the pads of the dogs' paws. They do not have heartworm disease, the shelter reports.

They euthanize animals for a variety of reasons. Most of them are killed because they are "thrifty," which I was told meant too mangy for anyone to be interested.

My neighbors have a pitbull that I would love to see euthanized.

Oh, this is sickening. All because of an owner who didn't care.

They mistreat the animals that they use to mistreat and kill other animals.
