Fantasy baseball advice: Draft Khalil

Posted 10:46 a.m., December 5, 2008

There are so many reasons why Khalil Greene, the greatest baseball position player in Clemson history, will thrive in 2009 after going to the St. Louis Cardinals from the cost-cutting San Diego Padres yesterday in a trade that might tilt the NL Central toward St. Louis ...

- Albert Pujols.

- Ryan Ludwick.

- Skip Schumaker.

- Troy Glaus.

Of course, Greene should perform better in a lineup including those guys than he did with the Padres. But the biggest motivation to improve from a .213 batting average and 10 homers in 2008 and get more like the 27-homer Khalil of 2007 is that this is the walk-year of a two-year contract worth $6.5 million in 2009 with the lure of salary arbitration for 2010.
