Is Koenning going to be a Tiger, again?

Posted 09:25 a.m., December 4, 2008

Is former Clemson defensive coordinator Vic Koenning going to be a Tiger again?

In an interview with (Baton Rouge) The Advocate Koenning said he would listen to anything that LSU coach Les Miles had to say about the Tigers’ defensive coordinator’s position. Only problem is that there’s not a spot open on Miles’ staff. Co-defensive coordinators Doug Mallory and Bradley Dale Peveto are still in place – well, at least for now.

“It definitely would interest me because I think the world of coach Miles and what he’s been able to do down there at LSU in a short period of time,” Koennig told The Advocate. “Any time I had correspondence with him when we were head coaches, I really enjoyed him. I’ve gotten to know several members of that staff and think a lot of those guys, as well.”

Koennig was on Miles’ radar in 2005 when he was putting together his original coaching staff and his name also surfaced last year when Miles was looking to replace then defensive coordinator Bo Pellini. Maybe the third time will be the charm for Miles and Koenning.

Koennig said he would “be crazy not to take a look. LSU is a wonderful place and it would be a great opportunity for any coach if it plays out that way.”

Koennig’s alma mater, Kansas State, is in the market for a defensive coordinator. Of course if Tommy Bowden heads to Mississippi State, he’d be a prime candidate for that position as well.

Former Tennessee DC John Chavis, who reportedly is interviewing with Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney as I type, could also be a candidate at LSU.

On Monday, former Georgia coach Jim Donnan told an Atlanta sports radio talk show that Chavis and LSU have an agreement in place.

Miles, however, denied the report.

What a non story. Lets see, an unemployed guy says he would listen if a potential employer called him. Well duh!

CNSYD, please join TigerIllustrated if you are not already a member so you can continue to slurp Larry Williams. We all miss his posts on here but I appreciate the effort and information that his replacements are posting.

wffd40, Accept mediocrity and they will continue to serve you generous portions. As another poster on this blog has observed, no wonder newspapers are going under. TI includes more than LW and existed prior to him joining it. CUTIGERS also does real work.

True, I agree with you on those points, but this is free. They do not have to have a blog, they do it for the benefit of Tiger fans who can't afford to join a pay site.

Mallvetos got to go. Bring on Chavis. Bring on Koenning. Give me Coach O and his yaw yaw yaw football. Just get rid of Mallveto.
