Lacroix, Pokulok called up to Hershey

Posted 01:04 a.m., November 26, 2008

I just got back into town and found this on my email from the Stingrays.

Not a surprise. I was warned about the moves this morning. Evidently lots of injuries up in Washington, so the Caps had to call guys up from Hershey.

I sincerely hope that Pok is up for a while. He deserves a look up there. He’s been the best player on the ice for the Rays all season, besides the two goalies.

Here's the Stingrays release:

The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/General Manager Jared Bednar announced today that Maxime Lacroix and Sasha Pokulok have been reassigned by the Washington Capitals from the Stingrays to the Hershey Bears.

Lacroix, 21, joined the Stingrays this year after playing the last four years in the QMJHL, tallying 83 goals and 93 assists for 176 points in 254 contests with the Quebec Remparts. The 6-foot, 190-pound forward currently leads the Stingrays with ten goals and is second on the team in points with 16 (10g, 6a) in 14 games. The Quebec, PQ native was originally Washington’s 5th round selection (127th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Pokulok, 22, returned this season after concluding the 2007-08 season with the Stingrays where he collected six assists in 18 playoff games. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound defensemen has eight points (2g, 6a) in 14 games with the Rays this year and leads the team with a plus-27 plus/minus rating. A 1st round Washington Capital’s draft pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft (14th overall), Pokulok spent most of last season in Hershey, totaling seven points (1g, 6a) and 43 penalty minutes in 44 contests.

See you at The Rink,

APM

If they're gone for any extended period of time, this will really test the Rays.

Andrew -
Do you think Bryson Busniuk might be available to play if Lacroix is gone for awhile? I noticed him playing for Dayton when they came to town. Probably just because they needed a warm body to suit up. I think Buzzy now lives here with his wife (or somewhere in SC). Not sure if he would want to go on a road trip though. I'm sure the Rays will at least ask him or pick someone else up, having 9 forwards isn't a good thing.

Is Dovgan able to come off of IR and play in MS?

Posted by RaysFan34 on November 26 at 10:09 a.m.

Dovgan was on the bus when it left last night.

according to a source in hershey michael dubuc was recalled to hershey as well. This was later confirmed by the ahl transactions page. I really do think that the stingrays will pick someone up. or one of our d-men will have to play at foward.

Yes, I knew his name and since the Stingrays have now released it, we have signed Ben Boudreau, son of Washington Capitals Head Coach, Bruce Boudreau.

Posted by borohockey8 on November 26 at 3:32 p.m.

So can anyone tell me and other Stingray fans something about Boudreau? Where did he play? What position? Can he play? Is he physical? What are his stats?

Boudreau is a small, high energy player. He was in Hershey's camp, so Jared has seen him play. I think I remember him scoring a goal in a Hershey pre-season game. He'll probably be OK for a fill in, but I'll be pleasantly surprised if he's a long term solution to any of our needs.

There are a couple rumors floating aroung concerning the Augusta Lynx. There was an article in the Charlotte Observer (this morning) that stated the schedule was being revised because the Lynx were folding. The article has since been pulled. Don't know if it was pulled because it isn't true, or because an official announcement hasn't been made yet. There's also a rumor that the Lynx are being taken over by the league, and they would finish out the schedule.

Either way, it sounds like somethin's brewin'.

borohockey, just want to make you (and anyone interested) aware of a great place to go for straight statistics -- www.hockeydb.com. The site has been revamped this year (and looks great!!) and has lots of information there.

John Marks great coach but notice ever since he coached in Sphl. Ever team he coaches falls apart. I think the lynx should look for another coach like get troy mann the coach of the inferno.

Posted by RaysRsharp on November 26 at 4:18 p.m.

John Marks doesn't cause the teams to fall apart. He's caught in the same cycle that Rick Adduono was in. Take a job with a failing team, get a late start on finding a new job, rinse and repeat. The failing of Greenville, Pensacola, and Augusta, had nothing to do with coaching issues.

I noticed that Dubic and Lacroix were not in the HBear's lineup Saturday or Sunday. Are they on their a back to SC?
