I promise I'm not ignoring you guys

Posted 12:48 a.m., November 25, 2008

OK, I promise I haven’t been ignoring you guys on purpose.

My life is upside down right now. Back in Clemson. Again! I haven’t seen my wife and kids in a week, which might explain why she’s been so happy lately.

But enough about me.

I was actually at the 10-0 Mississippi whipping on Sunday. I listened to most of the games on Friday and Saturday night as well.

My impressions of Sunday were that the Stingrays played well and the Sea Wolves got some bad goal tending. I spoke with former Rays coach Jason Fitzsimmons, a scout for the Washington Capitals, and he told me that Ryan Munce, the Sea Wolves starting goalie, was a prospect. Munce was a third round daft pick of the L.A. Kings in 2003, so someone thinks he has talent.

He didn’t get much help from his defense and it was his third start in as many days, but he was brutal and his back-up Jeremy Duschene was even worse.

And it’s not like the Rays were running it up. I mean the last couple of power plays, Tommy Maxwell and Matt Scherer were out there.

I think, however, that the Rays were also sending Florida a message after their 12-0 win over Augusta on Saturday night. (Did you see what a gong show that turned into with more than 250 PIMs) None of the players said so, but I’ve got to believe they saw the Florida score and wanted to send a message.

Some other quick observations.

Rookie goalie Michal Neuvirth is the real deal. Two shutouts, in his first five games, are you kidding me? He made a very nice pad save in the first period when the game still matter that showed me something.

Steve Pinizzotto is up in Hershey. Good for him. He had been playing much better the last week or so. Hershey has some injuries, one of them being Grant McNeill with a broken wrist, so I’d expect Pinner to get a long look up there. Hope he stays.

The new guy Jeff Corey has excellent wheels. I like him being out there with Keith Johnson and Paul Kelly. I think that line will finally get its scoring touch back with Corey in the lineup.

Don’t know what’s up with Michael Dubuc. He hasn’t scored a goal in five games. He had a great back-handed pass to Travis Morin for a goal. He could be one of those guys that scores goals in bunches, then cools off, then goes on another run.

Also, as I said earlier that I was going to start doing some multi-media stuff. Well, I did an audio interview with Rays coach Jared Bednar that I’m hoping will get up in the website this week.

When it’s up there I’ll let you know.

See you at The Rink,

APM

What happened to the dancing zamboni guy from last year? Did I miss something? As I think about it right now, I have not seen him this year at all. What did happen to him? What a game tonight from the boys. Romfo was put back into the lineup and he had a solid game considering he hasnt played in a little while. Great game from all the guys. You can tell Mississippi is a soft team when you lose by that much and do not want to hit or fight anyone.

First of all, props to Tom Nemeth and Rod Taylor getting into the hall of fame. Good to see a couple of former Rays make it, although they earned their stripes with other teams. Just a couple thoughts i had i thought i would throw out for discussion and Andrew if you know anything on these items please let me know.

1. Why have we not had an All Star game here in Charleston? Is there no interest in the ownership to push for one? Is it a money thing?

2. I keep in contact with several former Rays and I have heard from one in particular that he had played in an alumni game with his former team and said it was a blast. Is that something we could look into here? I think the fans would get a kick out of seeing some the old guys on the ice again.

3. Id like to see the Rays do a throwback jersey night. Maybe an idea for the 20th anniversary. It would interesting to see the old threads again.

Just some thoughts.

It looks like we could be losing a player or two before we head to Mississippi. 3 more Caps players were injured last night including D-Man Jeff Schultz who is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Hershey is also suffering from injuries. The Bears had just enough players to play their last game. Both teams play their next game Wed. night.

Here’s a couple of blogs that gives more info…

Capitals could recall players from Hershey

Ouch

Good thing we started the season with plenty of players, although it would have been nice if we could of held on to one or two more. We are down to 19 now, so if only 1 gets called up, we will still have a full roster. More than 1 gets called up and we are either going to have to play shorthanded or find some new player(s). The good news is, no goalies are affected by injuries up above, knock on wood.

The first thing that came to my mind was where is MacDermid and Rainville? Could they be available? The answer is no.

Jeff MacDermid is playing for Oklahoma City (CHL). He has 8 points in 9 games.
Jeff Rainville is playing for Bloomington (UHL). He has no points in 2 games.

Crossing my fingers that enough players listed as day-to-day in Washington and Hershey will be able to play on Wednesday, so Hershey will not need any Stingrays players.

The bad news has come...

Lacriox and Pokulok to Hershey

That leaves us with 6 D-Men and 9 Forwards if everyone is healthy.

Call up players if needed with sphl or mahl? We done that in past with columbus cottonmouths.

Wheres Tim Judy when you need him? I know he cannot do that this year, but there has to be someone thats willing to go to Mississippi with the team. Heck, I will volunteer myself and be the 10th forward or 7th defensemen for the team in Mississippi.

I think Bedsy would rather go with 15 skaters than have an SPHLer or borohockey8 added to the roster to screw things up...lol

Come on Stingrays01. This is the first Thanksgiving that I am not spending any time with my family, so I figured why not. I can sit my butt on the bench and not hit the ice unless Bedsy calls my number lol!

I played Division III college hockey up north, so I just thought I would offer my services.
