Life without Hines

Ed Conroy will be relieved to see UNCG take the court without Kyle Hines on Thursday night.
Hines, you might recall, hit 10 of 10 shots and scored 22 points in 19 minutes as the Spartans torched the Bulldogs, 84-54, last year in Greensboro.
Hines, a 6-6, was just six players in college-basketball history to score 2,000 points, grab 1,000 rebounds and block 300 shots. He's now playing pro ball in Italy.
Without him, UNCG is off to a 1-3 start this year.
"I haven't found an answer yet," UNCG coach Mike Dement told the Winston-Salem paper recently. "We relied on him so much over the last four years and rightfully so. But now we're going to have to find out who is going to be the go-to guy and establish someone inside."
Ben Stywall, a 6-5, 220-pound junior, will be counted on heavily inside, but the Spartans will most likely be perimeter-oriented with the return of shooters Mikko Koivisto and Kendall Toney, who each shot over 40 percent from 3-point range last year.
"But a lot of that had to do with the way teams played Hines, giving them a lot of open shots," Dement said.

3 losses are to Central Ark, NC state, and UNCC. Not bad competition. It will be a real test for our boys and one that counts.(socon play)
